Summer is officially upon us and here in the UK we have been blessed with a glorious 3 week heatwave and just because the sun is shining it doesn’t mean that I will be hiding my hook in the drawer until Autumn. Summer is the perfect season for lacy, boho inspired patterns and I’ve had lots of fun designing this fun floaty beach top. Inspired by the great items of clothing I have seen on TV this summer I wanted to make something similar and came up with this beauty!
Ahh the humble granny square, where would us crocheters be without you? So versatile in its design that you can make literally anything with them. I originally started to make this top with the Sunburst Granny Square but found when I stitched them together it was quite bulky. Perfect for a blanket but not for a summer top, so I frogged and started again. I took all elements of the Sunburst Granny Square but replaced the puff stitch in the 2nd round. You can read a whole post about it here.

Boho Beach Top Pattern & Construction:
The body of the top is made from 9 No Puff Sunburst Granny Squares.
For a smaller top omit the last round.
For a larger top repeat the last round once more.
Once you have 9 squares, with right sides facing, sew or slip stitch the back loops together in the below sequence :
You will now have 1 piece of work with 4 squares on on the top.
The Straps: Attach yarn in the corner of the 1st square and single crochet along to the tip. Ch 40 (you can adjust the number of chains to your liking) and sl st to the tip of the square next to it.
Tip: Be careful not to twist the chain here, you will be single crocheting back along it and you don’t want to have twisted straps!
Single crochet back along the chain. Sl St to fasten off and weave in your ends. Repeat on the other side.
Now fold your piece of work so the tips of the 2 squares farthest away touch. You will have something like this:
Repeating on both sides. Attach yarn in the corner space of each square, ch 40 and fasten off. This is your tie back. I added mini tassels to the ends of mine to make them look prettier. If you want to know how to make mini tassels check out this post.
Fringe : Take 4 pieces of yarn 60 cm long fold in half an attach to the bottom squares. Spacing them evenly as you go. I started in the middle and worked my way around. This part is where its totally up to you, leave them long, cut them short, all the way round? You choose! To see how to attach fringing see here.
Viola! One Boho Beach Top! I took mine for an outing to the seaside!
